The concept for this started out as another 'Coke bottle' piece, but I decided instead to use a couple of old bottles I found at an antique store in Tucson. I began painting this at the Desert Arts Festival / Palm Springs in February '06 and finished it at home a couple weeks later. The glass is striking in it's simplicity, and the leaves are a lot of fun, but what really grabs people are the rose pedals floating on the surface of the painting. They radiate an intense red, that makes them almost seem like some sort of 3D effect. At subsequent shows in which I've had this original on display, people would frequently approach this piece and reach out for the pedals. In fact, the red is so strong and vibrant that it cannot be reproduced, so I must re-paint them on each reproduction. This original showed at a total of four art shows before going to a very appreciative home in Ft. Worth, Texas.
