Of course I had fun with the reflections, refractions (through the bowl and water) and the out of focus hotspots! Additionally, I used glazing techniques to really pump up the vibrancy of the flowers in the bowl. Boy does that make a difference!!!! As the piece developed, I felt it needed a bit of color to the right side, so I added some very subtly tinted highlights to the ivory handle, chrome, and white rose pedals. This was painted primarily while attending an art show in North Scottsdale in October, 2005, and many people don't quite recognize the item on the right as an old-style hand mixer - hence the title. You see - in "light", mixing all colors together creates pure white light, so mixing all of the vibrant colors of the bowl of flowers would create the pure white rose in the center.
