Of course I had fun with the
reflections, refractions (through the bowl and water) and the out of focus
hotspots! Additionally, I used glazing techniques to really pump up the
vibrancy of the flowers in the bowl. Boy does that make a difference!!!!
As the piece developed, I felt it needed a bit of color to the right side,
so I added some very subtly tinted highlights to the ivory handle, chrome,
and white rose pedals. This was painted primarily while attending an art
show in North Scottsdale in October, 2005, and many people don't quite
recognize the item on the right as an old-style hand mixer - hence the
title. You see - in "light", mixing all colors together creates pure white
light, so mixing all of the vibrant colors of the bowl of flowers would
create the pure white rose in the center.
