Believe it or not, this is the beginning of the RED apple. A green "underpainting" helps make the shadows richer.

I decided to work on the spotlit, wood surface next.

This is after the very first layer of red glaze. It is so translucent, it barely even shows up.

It took a couple dozen layers of a red glaze to create the richness of the skin. In between layers, I finished up the apple's shadow.

Voila! Many layers of red, a couple dozen meticulously moistened drops-o-water, and a stem - and we have a vibrant red apple!

I especially enjoy the droplets on the edges, and the very subtle reflection of the spotlit board on the underside of the apple.
