HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

And welcome to the 75TH ISSUE of the REStevensArt Noozleddar!!! :)  In spite of the touted woe's -o- economy, 2009 was my best year yet and am looking forward to introducing even more new art in 2010.

To start with, on the right here is one I call "Edelmann wrap" - a 36"x48"x3" deep acrylic on canvas. Some of you saw me start work on this at the 4th Ave Street Fair last month.

Hmmm . . so here' s the deal. I love the painting, and I love the concept . . I wish it was mine (the concept that is). Recently, a collector in Houston commissioned me to do this piece inspired by the work of Yrjo Edelmann, a Swedish photorealist. I took my own reference photograph as always and the painting is mine, but the concept of painting loosely wrapped packages in general is his, so whilst I'm quite proud of the piece, it's not a series you'll see much of at my booth.

On the left here is "4th Ave Trolley", the poster artwork I recently completed for the upcoming 4th Avenue Street fair in March. Those of you in SouthEast Arizona will see the image on posters, flyers, t-shirts and the like in the weeks leading up to the fair.  Click on the picture (left) to go see a slide show of the progression of the painting.

The promoters have been wanting the iconic 4th Avenue trolley included in the festival posters nowadays, and I decided I wanted to play with doing it as a toy. I found the local 'model railroaders club' and one of the members just happened to have a very similar model trolley on which I only had to change the color. The background 'sky' went through four different manifestations before I settled on this one.

I will have giclee reproductions of this piece as well as matted prints available at the 4th Ave show and those that follow. Noozleddar subscribers interested in pre-ordering a reproduction or print of this painting can get 1/2 OFF the standard prices, provided it's ordered before February 15, but you don't mind waiting until after March 21st to receive it. Just toss me a note, and I'll answer any questions on size, cost, etc.

Meanwhile, I have two printer's proofs of "antique store II" (below) available for discount to subscribers.

These are both 12"x18" and are marked printer's proof #02 and #03. They are both signed (in numerous places in fact) and varnished. One is stretched and ready to hang for $160, and the other is an un-stretched canvas for $100.

IfIIf I had a dollar for every time in the last several weeks someone has asked me if I've got a 2010 calendar  .  . . well  .  .  . that would be a strange way of making money. My point is, I sure am regretting not doing one for this year. I am now starting to put together a 2011 calendar which I plan on making available by Summer of this year. As before, I will offer it as a discounted pre-sale in here once I've got the layout done. Sorry I don't have any for this year, but rest assured, I've learned my lesson.

Until next time remember - art is much less about what you're looking at, and much more about the eyes you're looking through.
