REStevensArt - News 70  Wednesday, August 24th, 2009  -  www.restevensart.com

First of all, to all those who signed up for the REStevensArt Noozleddar in Boulder, Colorado and Park City, Utah: WELCOME TO THE COMMUNITY! What a great end to a fantastic trip through Colorado for the month of July!

Before I carry on with the art business at hand, I wanted to share a bit of my return trip home. After having lived in southeastern Arizona for over 30 years, I FINALLY got to visit the Grand Canyon for the first time! As I drove home from Park City, I can tell you, that I was already emotionally exhausted from the overwhelming vista's that fill the landscape throughout southern Utah, and Northern Arizona. But it was worth it to push that envelope even further and spend a couple hours hiking and driving along the southern rim of this great crack in the earth!

(right) I've shared one of the many photos I took during this thrilling feast of a journey home, but even I know that pictures just don't do the experience justice. :)

Meanwhile, the folks at those two last shows got a sneak peak at a completely new body of work I've been developing over the summer. In fact, some of you may recall a piece I shared here in the 'noozleddar' a couple of years ago for which I explored this style, and I've been itching to go further with it ever since. I had originally planned on unveiling them for the first time at this upcoming show in Prescott, Az., but found myself with a bit of extra display space during the Boulder show, so I decided to hang some of them. As it turned out, the very first piece I sold was one of these.

(below) "desert dusk 0716" - 18"x48" on wood panel.

I've decided to include a fairly comprehensive gallery of this new work right here in this newsletter, so you can get a sense of the variety of paintings I've been working on lately.

Obviously, these pieces are quite the departure from my 'usual' work! I've got a brand new series of photorealism paintings I'm doing as well, which I will start to unveil in the coming weeks, but for now I've been doing lots of these new ones to get ready for my winter shows in Arizona and around the Southwest.

(above lt) "sunset 0716" - 12"x12" on wood panel.    (above rt) "desert moon 0716" - 12"x12" on wood panel.

These are all a mix of acrylics and enamels, generally on 1/2" MDF panel (a smooth, medium density fiberboard), though a few are on the thinner wood panels such as I've used in the past. In all cases, I have mounted them on 1-1/2" thick recessed frames, such that they appear to sort of float off of the wall, as I have done with many of my photorealism originals.

(above) "banyan tree 0730" - 16"x16" on 1/2" mdf panel.

Among other things, an inspiration for these pieces, was simply to explore a style in which I could enjoy depicting subjects that don't generally attract me in the photorealistic approach. With these, I can use a much more liberated, process oriented technique for depicting landscapes and such.

(below) "windmill 0730" - 16"x16" on 1/2" mdf.

As you can see, I'm playing around a lot with depicting my precious desert, but as I completed a few of them, I came to realize I wasn't really painting what I see in the desert, but rather the energy I feel in the desert.  I cannot describe how much enjoyment I get out of painting these.

One of my primary goals with these new works was to be able to offer one of a kind originals at a much lower cost than I can do with the photorealism pieces (which can take anywhere from 8 to 80 hours each). I will not be doing reproductions of these, so each one is truly a one-of-a-kind !!!

I hope you are enjoying the color, composition, and energy found in these new paintings. The photos are a fair representation, but I must say they really excite me in person, partially because they have a unique and interesting texture as well.

     So, here's the scoop!!!

The pricing on these paintings is quite simple: $1.50/sq in. Again, one of my primary goals was to make them a much more affordable 'original' and I've got WAY TOO MANY of these in mind and ready to make their way onto wood panels, to hold out for 'gallery pricing'.   :)

Since, I am already pricing them quite low, I won't be able to offer as much discount as I have on some of my other work in the past, BUT as I introduce these to the world, from now through October 5th (the weekend of Art In The Park here in Sierra Vista), anyone on the 'noozleddar' list who wishes to purchase an original 'REStevens - splatter' painting, can pay just $1.00/sq in.

That means a 12"x12" one of a kind, original painting on wood panel is ONLY $144!!!!!. a 16"X16" is $256!!! A large, 16"X48"  painting is just $768!!!!.

And it gets even better! You are not just limited to the pieces you see here in this newsletter. If, for instance, you like the "desert heat 0730" piece, but you'd rather have something like it in a 12"x12", or a wider version in a 16"x 24" or even 16"x48", just let me know and I will create one for you. I'm even excited to explore other subjects in this style, so if you've got something in mind, just pitch it to me! In other words, I can do commissions in this style, as well as nearly unlimited sizes and shapes. The painting just has to be ordered prior to October 5th to get the $1.00/sq in. price.

Also, as with my other work, I will still allow noozleddar subscribers to pay out their purchase over time on a credit or debit card if you wish.  I look forward to any feedback or questions about the new work. Thanks, as always for reading and for enjoying art!

     See you soon!!
