REStevensArt - News 66   Thursday, April 9th, 2009  -  www.restevensart.com

     Spring is here!

Hello everyone and welcome to 'noozleddar' issue #66! I must apologize first, as I'm still working my way through this new email system and recently discovered that all the folks who signed up in Florida did not get registered correctly, and hence did not receive the two March issues.

So! Welcome to the broadcast, all those who signed up in Florida, La Quinta (Ca.) and Texas (so far Houston and The Woodlands)!

Secondly, for those of you who may have felt a bit of deja' vu a couple of weeks ago, the previous mailing somehow sent a duplicate of Issue #64 rather than #65, so I have repeated some of that newer content in this issue while I catch up on all the latest exciting art and news from the world of REStevensArt. I've got quite a few new pieces to share, having kept myself pretty busy this past Winter and into the Spring.

Happy Birthday to my brother, Andy!  - 04/09

I returned to the reference image from which I painted "apple splash II", but for the first time, decided to paint this one red (being the rebel that I am). This piece was completed in February in Florida, and recently sold at the Bayou City Art Fest. in Houston!

(right) - "red rose crayon" - Here I'm installing this piece in it's new home in Rancho Mirage, Ca.

I want to share this piece one last time since it sold recently in La Quinta, Ca., having only displayed in two shows in it's brief travels with me (although those two shows were on opposite ends of the country). For this one, I chose to reach back even further into the simplicity and innocence of childhood. While it may not seem like much, a friend's comments about the previous crayon piece brought to my attention the idea that younger children don't generally recognize perspective, so I purposely lined up the roses in a rather flat view. Admittedly, I am quite excited to not have to keep transporting this behemoth of art around, but alas - me being me - I'm also excited about building another obnoxiously huge piece in the near future. :)  I've got two more giant pieces of paper (though not this big) partially completed, which I'll share soon.

While many of you have seen the "DaVinc-A-Sketch" before, I now present the updated version! I found myself not being as excited about the image inside the giant toy as I would like to be and began brewing about this alternative version in January. I finished it up in Houston and have now hung it for two shows! This piece can be shipped, so just toss me a note if you'd like to have this giant icon of American pop-culture (and a great conversation piece) in your home. And don't forget I can accept timed payments!
The "DaVinc-A-Sketch" is a 49" wide x 37" high x 14" deep mixed media wall sculpture made of wood, canvas, plastic, acrylic paint, polyurethane, and two ceiling light fixtures that light up.

One unfortunate effect of my artistic enthusiasm is that I keep outgrowing my modes of transporting all this art work around. Having recently broken two leaf springs, and burnt out a wheel bearing on my cargo trailer, I realize it's time to upgrade the hauler, or stop adding more artwork until I've sold much of what I'm carrying around. To that end, I am offering the following limited edition giclee at CONSIDERABLE discount!

This is a 24"x36" limited edition canvas reproduction from my very first run in 2004. Because these were produced before I started "gallery wrapping" my canvasses, this has a plain white border around the image, more suitable for standard stretching and framing. I am offering this as an un-stretched canvass for ONLY $150 to the first buyer to contact me. This size sells at shows and galleries for $895 stretched and ready to hang, or $595 as a canvas. Upon purchase, I will sign, number, varnish, and ship it to you (FREE UPS ground to anywhere in the U.S.) Just toss me a note - roderick@restevensart.com or give me a call at (323)353-8202.

Meanwhile, I must get back to work! Much art to create in between shows as I bounce around Texas. Thanks for reading and collecting art!
