HAPPY NEW YEAR
EVERYONE!!!!
2009 is upon us like no year
before it! In a lot of ways, the world is a very different place than it was
just one year ago. Some of it can be a bit scary, but some of it is pretty
exciting! I know I'm excited!
Over the past year, I've been sharing the mixed media
pieces with you all, but I don't think I've adequately expressed how giddy I
am about the medium. Many of you know the story of how I sort of fell into
the painting just over 4 years ago, and It's been one heckuva ride ever
since. In February '08, whilst touring the shows in Florida, I was suddenly
struck by the idea of building a giant typewriter, which then became "just
words 01". From the moment I finished that piece, the floodgates were
opened. I now have more ideas and concepts I'm excited about than a lifetime
would ever see finished and they keep on coming! As fast as I can, I've been
pondering, planning, and building some of these projects in between
painting, and I hope some of you are as excited to see them as I've been to
make them. |

(above) "nine apples" - nine individual
panels with varying manifestations of the "famed green apple", including: 1
- Chinese symbol for apple, 2 - splatter, 3 - road sign, 4 - torn
construction paper, 5 - the Beatles record label, 6 - crumpled up ball of
green paper, 7 - blueprints (or 'greenprints'), 8 - photorealistic apple, 9
- STEVENS signature - all mounted into a 36"x36" box frame. |

UPCOMING SHOWS! |
The fruit paintings have been consistently popular pieces all across the
country, and I've ended up painting especially more apples than I can
remember. Below, however is the first red apple I've done in the more
familiar 'heart-like' shape, rather than the more round green apple style,
so I thought I would share it here.

A few people have written asking me about the auctions I had started for the
assorted odd-sized, slightly damaged, etc. giclee's I have, but it is taking
me a while to get re-oriented to this new process of generating the
noozleddars, so thank you for your patience! I hope to resume them by the
end of the month.
Meanwhile I am back to work, in all of it's various
manifestations, now; still in pre-production on this film in L.A. in
January, cleaning and fixing up my previous abode so I can sell or rent it,
cleaning the new house (which is much more of a time consuming chore than
the old place), and creating as much art as I can generate as I prepare for
Florida and the Spring show schedule.
Be sure to check out the gallery at
www.restevensart.com if you
haven't been there in a while. Otherwise, I hope to see many of you soon at
one of the upcoming shows! |
