REStevensArt News 58 - 10/07/08   -   www.restevensart.com

Hi everyone!!!!

LOTS of stuff to see in this issue. It's a big 'un! And I still don't have room to include all the new art I'm anxious to share, but there are a few pieces in here, so let's get this thing started!

Firstly, welcome to the "noozleddar list" all folks who signed up at this past weekend's Sierra Vista Art In The Park! You all got to see a few new pieces in person that haven't even made it to the noozleddar yet. I have to admit, I set up for this weekend with some apprehension stemming from all of last week's drama on Wall Street and capital hill, but in the end I had a great show with sales slightly higher than either of the previous years. By Sunday afternoon I was joking with many of my visitors that "I was wrong! I guess that government bail-out must've WORKED already!" Fortunately, it seemed they all got my humor. :-)  I must share though, that nearly every artist I spoke to over the weekend was doing as well as or better than last year, so it seems to me that activity continues to betray the headlines.

#1: NEW ART!!!

I am having an absolute blast creating these new 'mixed media sculpture' pieces. The explorations have been quite liberating! "crayon drawing #1" (right) is the latest addition, and had it's first showing this past weekend at the Sierra Vista Art In The Park.

A sheet of thin plywood was cut, drilled, soaked, twisted, bent, and distressed before it was primed and turned into a piece of 'spiral notebook paper'. A set of giant Crayola crayons were employed for the obvious parts and then finished off with a typically 'REStevensArt' rose blossom. The piece really took on a new life though, when I installed it in a large black 'shadow box'. The overall dimensions are 36" wide by 48" tall by 3" deep. Definitely, a unique conversation piece on any wall that will have it! Feedback is welcome and solicited.

I have just begun applying to some of the higher-end (hence tougher to get into) shows around the country in the 3d Mixed Media category. I'm hoping to get into some shows I haven't broken into to before.

#2: THE HOUSE IS FINISHED!!!

O.k., not really. But I have finally achieved my first level of "finished". The house is officially and legally livable now! I passed my final County inspection last week (after much drama stemming from a misinformed County employee who has not yet heard the last of me! :-)  I am now in the middle of rolling out of the construction loan and into a mortgage. EEEEEK!!! My first "real" mortgage payment! I guess I'll have to take the notion of selling artwork seriously now, if I am to avoid becoming another part of the growing statistic we keep reading about in the news.

Ah well - I keep saying - if it all goes down hill from here, no one buys any more art, and I am subsequently booted out of my own abode, they CAN'T TAKE the last two years of experience away from me (or hopefully all the swell tools I've now accumulated! :-)  I haven't yet updated the "September" page, but click on the following link, or the picture below to see the Summer's progress on the house. http://www.restevensart.com/House/house_home.htm

It is amazing to me what a difference it has made to level out the giant mounds of dirt that once covered up my front yard. Suddenly the house looks more like a 'home' on the outside.
#3:  NOOZLEDDAR AUCTIONS!!!

The first two auction items are gone, and it was a win/win for everybody. Two people got some artwork at less than even half-price, and I got to free up storage space! :-)  Honestly, this stems at least partially from my own obsession with avoiding waste. I don't want to keep filling up my studio with printer's proofs, slightly damaged, or generally surplus artwork, but I can't stand the idea of simply disposing of them when Tom (my giclee' guy) and I have worked so hard on them, and they are all good quality works. So I offer them here at significant discount in the hopes they will find a home that loves them! :-)

I am auctioning off three new pieces from now through October 28th (right before I leave for another show in SoCal). This is a great opportunity to get a limited edition giclee for a fraction of the usual price! And under the current state of our nation's economy, I am compelled to remind you all that I am happy to split payments up over time on a credit or debit card.

I've chosen to do three pieces this month, because two of them can make a nice set together, yet I wanted to keep some variety going in these. Click on any of the images below to go to a page for these auctions.

NEW AUCTIONS for OCTOBER!

#1 : (above) "reunion II" - and
#2 : (below) "reunion III"
These are large giclee's 30"x24", and 24"x36" respectively that were hung in a public display here in Sierra Vista. The facility began a major remodel and needed me to remove the art for its own safety.

I'm auctioning them off separately, but thought I would list them together, because they might make a nice pair together for someone. Each one is starting at only $85! (That's more than a 90% discount!)

#2 : (below) "apple splash I"

This one is a printer's proof of the very popular, first apple splash painting I did. It is an unstretched 16"x24" giclee reproduction. I see no difference between this one and the one I had on display this past weekend, so I have concluded that this must have been our final proof, and I'm offering it here for a starting bid of only $55!

GOOD LUCK, AND HAPPY BIDDING!!!!

#4: MORE NEW ART!!!

(below) - "apple recipes #1"

During discussions with a Chicago collector about 'not so contemporary' apple paintings, I envisioned this piece, for which I took assorted apple recipes and names of apples, and 'decoupaged' them onto one of those tree trunk art planks. I then used a tinted glaze to 'age' the piece before painting the green apple over it. Fun stuff!

     I've got a 2nd plank waiting in the wings for  .  . ?   a red apple ? a pear ?
#5: 2009 REStevensArt Calendar

Only TWO MORE WEEKS to pre-order the first ever REStevensArt Calendar (2009) for
only $15!!!!  Yes, I extended the deadline when I realized that I wouldn't even be home on the 15th to update the website. :-) So NOW everyone's got until I get home on October 22nd to follow this link -

http://www.restevensart.com/calendar09.htm

If the link does not work, just copy and paste the above into your 'address bar'. Also, while getting the files put together for the printer, I discovered an extra gift I will be able to offer with the calendar! I'll share it with you soon. :-)

And don't forget, if you order 4 calendars, I'll send you a 5th one FREE!

Well, that's all for today. Now that I am no longer under pressure of 'inspections' on the house, I am shifting into desperate "must sell art to climb out of debt" mode. As many of you might imagine, I am over schedule, over-budget, and overwhelmed (but still having the time of my life!) by this house, and am now plowing forward with as many shows as I can to help counter some of that.

I am spending the next 9 weekends showing all over Arizona (Sahuarita, Tucson, Gold Canyon, Tempe), and Southern California (Studio City, Beverly Hills, Woodland Hills, Palm Springs). Some of these are brand new shows for me, and some I haven't been to since starting the house, two years ago. I am eager to re-visit my desert compadres!

Please check out my 'show schedule' to see when I might be showing near you! Otherwise, don't forget about calendars and auctions, and I will check in again in a few weeks. As always, thanks for appreciating creativity, I am grateful for all of you.
