REStevensArt News 57 - 09/23/08   -   www.restevensart.com

Hi everyone!!!!

LOTS of stuff to share in this issue. It's a big 'un! And I still don't have room to include all the new art I want to share, but there are a few pieces, so let's get this thing started!

#1: 2009 REStevensArt Calendar

OOPS!!!

Firstly, I apologize to those who had difficulty with some of the links in the previous noozleddar. For some as of yet unknown reason, the PayPal link didn't work. Those who went to the Calendar page and successfully ordered a calendar discovered it was charging $5 for shipping. I refunded those folks, and wanted to let you all know the glitch is fixed.

If you would like to pre-order the first ever REStevensArt Calendar (2009), please follow this link -

http://www.restevensart.com/calendar09.htm

If the link does not work, just copy and paste the above into your 'address bar'.

ONLY from now until October 15th, the calendar is being offered for a measly $15 (40% off the regular price of $25), with FREE SHIPPING! - AND - Order 4 calendars, and get a 5th one FREE!

#2: NEW PAINTINGS!!!

Well o.k., I shared one of these previously, but I wanted y'all to see them together. These are 'goldtini', and 'bluetini'! Both painted whilst I was showing in Chicago, these are 18"x48" wood panels on my usual floating frame. Of course they're really all about the disturbance of the olive splashing into the liquid (vodka is the common choice I believe :-).

#3: MORE NEW ART!!!

As many of you know, I'm having fun exploring a completely new medium (for me) I refer to as 3D mixed media sculpture. For now, I tend build things that can hang on a wall, but that have depth to them, and represent little pieces of history or childhood memory. I manufacture them from a mix of raw building materials; wood, plastic, sheet metal, canvas, etc. as well as common household items such as plumbing parts, drawer pulls, cookie jars, lamps, and picture frames (just to name a few).

The first one I shared this past Spring was the "just words" typewriter. That piece continues to be a hit and I've sold three of them thus far (including one to a legal partner of Roy Disney). Each one is unique as I explore different materials for their assemblage. The 2nd piece is a giant Polaroid camera, but I am still working on the actual 'photograph' that's attached to it, so here I share the "Davinc A Sketch"!

Shortly after taking this photo, I decided to wrap red gel around the fluorescent bulbs inside the light fixtures, so they glow red now. I have LOTS of different ideas for the image inside the "sketch" surface, but this was the first concept, and it is easily changeable, so it may evolve a bit from show to show. :-) This will hang for the first time at the Art In The Park here in Sierra Vista, along side three other new mixed media pieces I will share in upcoming issues. I hope to soon have time to update the website and add a section just for these pieces, and I welcome any and all feedback on this new work!

#4:  NOOZLEDDAR AUCTIONS!!!

Just a reminder that I am auctioning off the two pieces below. I have gotten a few bids, but they are still quite the bargain! Clicking on either image below will take you to a page where you can click to send me a bid in increments of $10. I'll keep the page updated with the current bid amount and initials of the bidder until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 1st (shortly before my bedtime).

This is a great opportunity to get a limited edition giclee for a fraction of the usual price!

HERE ARE THE FIRST TWO AUCTIONS!

#1 :  "pear" -
This is a full size 20"x20" printer's proof; signed and numbered "PP #03/10". This is the same as the giclee's that sell for $495 at shows and in galleries, except that we (my guy Tom and I) tweaked down the reds a little after this proof, before settling on the edition run. The print looks GREAT and comes gallery wrapped and ready to hang! The pear is one of the most popular in the fruit collection, and bidding is presently at only $85!!! Just click on the image above and send me a note with your bid amount!

#2 :  "Sunday" - This too is a printer's proof. The difference is this is a smaller size at 12"x22". The color is great on this one, and we merely printed larger ones after it. I am letting this one go as an unstretched canvas with a current bid of only $60! Click on the image above and send me a note with your bid amount.

GOOD LUCK, AND HAPPY BIDDING!!!!

#5: Credit Card security!!!!

Be warned! Keep tabs on your credit cards and credit report! We hear it all day long, especially from companies promoting their credit protection services, but I thought I'd share my own recent experiences.

I've been approached a few times by 'designers' and 'agents' (never an actual art collector him/herself) to purchase some work. They always emphasize that they will arrange for shipping on their end, and that 'their client' will be giving me their credit card info. In the past, this was usually identified as the 'international money order scam', wherein it takes as long as six weeks to learn that the M.O. is fraudulent. Of course if they are using a credit card, the merchant (myself) would know right away if the funds are good or not.

Well, the first time this happened, I spent two weeks purposely dragging the transaction out while I investigated how they could be scamming me, before I finally realized that the point was they were using STOLEN credit cards or stolen identities!

Now, HERE'S the sad part, of which I want you all to be aware. These first 'buyers' gave me a total of six different credit cards to charge for some artwork. I researched each card and found the issuing banks (all in the U.K.), but when I contacted those banks to let them know that I thought I was being given stolen card numbers, they each merely stated that they could not help me and that I should check with the cardholder to make sure they were valid. CHECK WITH THE CARDHOLDER?!?!?

Obviously the 'alleged cardholder' gave me THEIR address and contact info, and obviously they are going to state they are legitimate. The banks literally showed NO concern for their own customers security, and these were big banks like HSBC, and Barclays. I addressed each of those banks a second time, emphasizing that I believed THEIR customers were being ripped off and that I could give them the names and card numbers to alert their customers. Again, they offered only generic responses, asked me no questions, and did not want the names, card numbers, etc.

Needless to say, I did not complete the transactions, but I just thought you all should know that it seems many (if not all) banks do little to follow up on the security of our accounts.

Of course  .  .  .  on the other hand, this shouldn't stop you from comfortably buying REStevensArt with your credit cards!!!!! :-)

I will also be updating the house progress page soon, and will include a pic or two in the next issue, but for now I will happily share that I FINALLY PASSED MY FINAL SEPTIC INSPECTION yesterday! WHEW!!!! I would say that the septic system, and it's accompanying bureaucracy have been the worst nightmare of this project.

I have even MORE art to share in the next issue, including a couple of new paintings, and more mixed media sculpture which I will be hauling to SoCal for several shows in October/November after this next one here in Sierra Vista.

Meanwhile; remember, only between now and October 15th, "noozleddar" subscribers can get your calendars at 40% off the price AND FREE SHIPPING! Of course you guys will always get a better than retail deal, but this silly price is just for those who pre-order early!  As always, thanks bunches for inviting me into your inbox!
