REStevensArt News 26 - 11/15/06 -       www.restevensart.com

Finally! A Southwestern image from REStevensArt. ;-)

A few years ago, my son found this old pistola in the desert. Knowing nothing about guns, and noting the seemingly small size of it, I always assumed it was a toy. When I happened upon it while starting to pack up my house, I just knew I had to paint it. I teamed it up with this old oil lamp I found at an antique store last year, and shot my reference photograph with the 4"x5" camera so I could manipulate the focus in true REStevensArt fashion.

A friend pointed out that this was a real weapon, and then a visitor to one of the recent Texas shows took it further in estimating that this pistol appeared to him to be as much as 130 + years old. Nutty stuff! And I just thought it was a swell, rusty prop.

Besides the rust, which is always fun, I really enjoy creating the illusion of light and heat with paint. The glowing flame and it's assorted reflections and glares were particularly fun, and of course I always embrace the out-of-focus elements.

MORE MOVING SALE!!!!

So far, about half of those first run giclee reproductions have sold at the discounted prices. There are several still available, so please just toss me a note or a jingle if you're interested in any of them. Meanwhile - I'm also announcing a sale price on THE ORIGINAL of "cans-o-paint"!  This is one of my personal favorite pieces. It is also one of my largest paintings, which in it's current manifestation runs 32" x 80". The reproductions have sold well, but as I've mentioned, I am building, packing, and moving, and really hate to haul this original around to too many more shows. It has long been priced at $10,500, but I am now discounting it to $8500! AND I will split the cost of crating and shipping it to any destination to which I cannot deliver it myself. Also, while I don't generally offer this for originals, I would be willing to work out timed, credit card payments for this piece.

(above) - The original "cans-o-paint" started out as a 4'x4' painting on masonite (below). I then cut the piece into four panels, mounted them at staggered heights AND depths, and then reunited the image with the yellow splash of paint and paint brush. Reproductions sell in both this 'deconstructed' version - cans-o-paint I -, and in the square version - cans-o-paint II - as shown below.

In other fairly exciting news, I've recently been accepted into some great shows for next Spring! The Austin Fine Arts Festival in early April is one I've heard great stuff about, and I can only guess could prove to be a great venue for my work. The Scottsdale 'Museum Show' is one of the highest rated shows in the country. I didn't get juried in last year, so I was excited to have been invited this time. And lastly, the infamous Main Street Ft. Worth, show. Last year, I was actually wait-listed, which means that the jury liked my work, but the only reason I actually got in was because four invited artists eventually pulled out for various reasons. It then proved to be my best show ever, so I was quite happy to learn that I was invited straight in this year. I am still waiting to hear about three other great shows; Southlake Art In The Square, La Quinta, and Cherry Creek.

LAST SHOW FOR RESTEVENSART IN 2006!

Check out other upcoming 2007 shows at the "Show Schedule"

It occurred to me that quite a few people have joined the list since I first announced my alternative methods for collecting REStevensArt. I figure the beginning of the "holiday season" is a great time to share them again. I notice that a whole lot of people following my artwork are rich in taste, but have not yet acquired their million$. This has inspired the introduction of two ideas for acquiring my reproductions more affordably.

OPTION 1: Purchasing a reproduction as an un-stretched (ie. unmounted) canvas saves you in two ways. #1, since it is less material and labor on my end, I can sell them at quite a discounted price. #2, I will cover the shipping to anywhere in the Continental U.S. This canvas is numbered, signed, and varnished, and can then be taken to any local frame shop and stretched on either standard or 'gallery wrap' stretchers for a minimal cost. Check your local area, but people have been reporting anywhere from $30-$95, depending on size, etc.

Each reproduction is priced seperately, but for instance, full size giclee's which are normally priced at $895, are
ONLY $595!!!! as unstretched canvasses, and my medium sized $495 giclee's are priced at ONLY $325!!!!

OPTION 2: 0% financing for 6 months! Just like all those jewelry and furniture stores and whatnot! As long as the artwork is bought directly through me with a credit card (not via PayPal), I will simply divide the purchase price into 6 equal monthly payments. This means, you could have a  full size  - 24"x36" of "Sunset & Harley" for just $99 initially, or a 20"x20" of "flash-faucet" for only $54 to start.

Simply send me a note to roderick@cinema-vista.com, or call (323)353-8202; let me know which piece you're interested in and whether you want to take advantage of OPTION 1, OPTION 2, or both - and you'll have a piece of artwork shipped out to you as promptly as possible!

I must start packing up for this Scottsdale show, and by the time I check in next, I hope to be getting some dirt work done on my lot, as the proud owner of a tractor! :-)  In the mean-time -
Happy Thanksgiving!
