OOPS!!!!   :-)

This newsletter was meant to go out last week, before I hit the road for Colorado  .  .  . but I forgot. So here I sit in my booth in Vail - with wireless signal from the nearby library! Vail has been wonderfully receptive to REStevensArt, generating my 2nd or 3rd best show ever (still counting the gold doubloons) and what a blessing to get to travel through such a gorgeous state! I am continually amazed and grateful at the journey's I am blessed to partake in for the sake of art! Seeing all these beautiful parts of the country is one of the greatest rewards for all the hard work that goes into doing these shows (it's taking me 5-7 hours to set up these days).

Prior to this, July was a great month off from shows, and very productive! Right is "music store I", a concept I became excited about a couple of months ago, while visiting the local music shop with my son (the drummer). These electric guitars were hanging in a display and I was of course instantly drawn to this reflection, and the deep red wood. My son is a bit disappointed as I happened to compose the piece, leaving out a poster of the "Beatles" (his favorite band) on the wall behind the guitars.

This has certainly been one of my most challenging paintings, and I'm excited about doing more musical instruments in the future! This is also what has inspired my plans for the "Painted Pony" piece, which I hope to start on as soon as I return from these Colorado shows.

Both of these Arts Festival are three-day outdoor celebrations of the visual and culinary arts. The primary focus of the event is the juried exhibition of gallery quality fine art and fine crafts, giving our audience the rare opportunity to meet, interact with, view the works of and purchase art from the individuals who have created it. Additionally, the Telluride Arts Festival offers an exceptional culinary experience featuring guest chef demonstrations and an upscale clientele for the dining events.

This is the latest in the Coke bottle series, and was the original concept for what ultimately became "rose shadow" earlier this year. I used much softer lighting for this one than I have in the past, and it really creates a different effect on the glass that I enjoy. Once again, the digital photograph of this painting does not do it justice.

I liked how rough the threshold between the light and shadow on the left end of the piece looked, so I decided to carry that into the flower, and use just some real loose strokes of color instead of a crisp, realistic silhouette.

BTW, rumor has it that the owner of a certain original (a rather popular one), was offered quite a profit (as in 5 times the original sale price) to sell it to a certain motorcycle company, for their museum! Fun stuff.

Well, that's all for now folks! It's back to the paint mines with me! I'm very excited about these new pieces I'm working on! Check ya' L8R!
