REStevensArt News 17 - 06/18/06 -       www.restevensart.com

Welcome SoCal folks who joined up at the recent Downtown Burbank show!

I love to see how people are incorporating my artwork into their homes, so if anyone would like to share some pictures, please email me at roderick@cinema-vista.com! A collector from the Southlake, Tx. show sent me these pictures (right and below) of her new decor! You can click on any of them to see a larger image. Two of these demonstrate my first finished version of "cans-o-paint II" (the non-deconstructed version) with the paint and paint brush. You might also notice the way this one is displayed - as a frayed edged, loose-hanging canvas (not unlike a tapestry of sorts). Of course this works out perfectly since my digital camera disappeared recently, so I don't have any new pix anyway. :-)

(above) This is a 40"x40" reproduction of "cans-o-paint" before it was deconstructed. After seeing an interesting photo exhibit in Santa Monica, the idea struck me to tear the edges of a canvas and suspend it unmounted. I first glued a 24"x24" 'torn-edged' version to a piece of blackened plywood. A Texas art fan loved the effect but wanted it applied to a giclee of November 16th (left). Shortly thereafter, she decided to add "cans-o-paint" to her collection, and liked the idea of it not being mounted on anything!

NEXT WEEKEND!

ONLY FROM NOW UNTIL JULY 15TH, 2006!!!

Presently, we have some exciting things happening with our "humane work hours" crusade - 12on/12off , and I am now ambitiously raising money for it. To that end, all REStevensArt reproductions sold between now and 07/15/06 will be considered a contribution to said cause. This is a 501(C)3 corporation, so donations are fully tax deductible (consult your tax attorney or accountant for individual restrictions).

You can go to www.12on12off.org to read more about it, but the overview is this. Many of you know, that my "other" job is Cinematography. I am passionate about getting producers to schedule more reasonable work hours for film production crews. Nowadays it is all too common for a crew to work 16-18 hours per day each day, with little turnaround time for sleep, family, and friends. Not only are they kept from having any sort of life outside of production, but often times they find themselves driving off the side of the road during their daily commute! Everyone on the road is in danger at that point! A high-profile example is the death of first assistant cameraman Brent Hershman, who perished in an auto accident while driving home from his fifth 16 hour day in a row during the production of "Pleasantville" (1998), leaving behind a wife and two small children. A documentary dedicated to this issue, called "Who Needs Sleep" was recently produced by legendary cinematographer Haskell Wexler!

I also want to mention something here, that I realized many of you may not be aware of. I always offer to take my paintings back as trade-in towards another painting of higher value. This is based on current full prices. So if, for instance, you paid $395 for a 16"x24" giclee of 'Sunset & Harley', you could now get $495 (the current price) towards the purchase of an $895, 24"x36" giclee - or towards a $595 unstretched 24"x36". That means for just $100, you could own a larger piece that's generally nearly double in price. Of course, it is all contingent upon the first print being in good, sellable condition, but I don't imagine too many of you are using them for cutting boards.  :-)

Well, I'm back to work getting ready for this La Jolla show, and working on my house design! Yup! I'm designing a house to build later this year! Good times!
