REStevensArt News 15 - 05/05/06 -       www.restevensart.com

Feliz Cinco De Mayo all !!!!

A BIG "WELCOME TO THE LIST" to all Texans, and Dallas/Ft. Worth visitors - and there are QUITE A FEW OF YOU! I also just discovered that a whole bunch of folks from the Palm Springs show in February were inadvertently left off the list. My apologies for the delay, but your on now!

A reminder to all - if you are not getting this newsletter as a graphical presentation of swell pictures and text on a grey and black background, then you are not seeing it as intended. You can go to www.restevensart.com , click on "Newsletter", and then choose Current. Now on with the news!

WOW!!!! Well, it’s safe to say that Dallas/Ft. Worth LOVES REStevensArt! These were by far, my most energized shows yet! Respectively "Main Street Ft. Worth" and the Southlake "Art In The Square", were my 1st and 2nd best shows to date. In fact, I did more sales in each of three days out there, than I'd ever done at an entire show previously!

above:  One of my visitors to the Main Street Ft. Worth was DFW Metro Cinematographer R Scott Wilson! This man photographed my first feature film, and was one of my initial inspirations for pursuing cinematography myself! It was great seeing him for the first time in 10 years. You can check out his "Wandering Golfer"

below: "tres gellows" - a 26"x36" triptych of giclee's from the "gellow" piece. Like "soap", "gellow" is presently available in it's original Red color, as well as Purple and Green, and I am working on an Orange.

ALTERNATIVE PURCHASE OPTIONS:

On another note - the options I first introduced to the "Noozledder" folks last month have been a hit. Several people have ordered un-stretched canvasses, and many have taken advantage of the 6 month, no cost financing. For those of you who've just joined the list - these are options I've offered only to you subscribers, as ways to acquire my artwork more affordably. Details can be found at the "Alternative Purchase Options" page. There are two addendums I will mention here.

#1 - Due to the popularity of the 6 month financing, I'm asking buyers to choose the 1st or the 15th of each subsequent month (after the initial deposit) to charge their payments. This makes it easier for me to keep up with the logistics and paperwork. After all, my staff are already complaining about too much work (ie.my daughter whines a lot :-) )

#2 - As of today (05/05/06) I am now set up to accept American Express!

And of course I take Visa and Mastercard as well!

One of the fun results was the number of folks who were subsequently ‘inspired’ to paint upon visiting my booth. Besides the numerous emails I received to that effect; when I visited an art supply store in Ft. Worth immediately following that show, I encountered two other customers purchasing paints and brushes, who specifically had their artistic passions rekindled after having seen my work at the show . Then as we were all checking out, the cashier himself had also been inspired over the weekend, specifically by my art. That’s some good fun stuff!

Some statistics from the Texas trip.

*           I sold more on Saturday at Main Street Ft. Worth than I've ever sold at an entire show before.

*           Sunday's sales were similarly strong and equaled in that one day what I normally make at a good show.

*           When most artists were closed up and getting rested for the next day, my last sale on Saturday at Main Street was after 10:00 p.m. And it was an original no less! I couldn't leave my booth until 11:00 p.m.!

*          The aforementioned original was - "Blown Mopar", which has never been seen here as it was never completed. They loved it as is and have given it a new home in Ft. Worth, Texas.

*          The next weekend in Southlake, Tx. ended up becoming my second best show ever (surpassed only by Main Street Ft. Worth, of course).

*           This “Noozledder Mailing List” doubled just from these two shows. Ft. Worth alone added more than five times the number of folks than at the next highest show.

*           “soap” has officially surpassed “Sunset & Harley” as the biggest seller.

*           The newcomer “flash-faucet” was also a hit, selling three reproductions  .  .  . and I hadn’t even made them yet. I had to find someone in the Ft. Worth area to help me get that done while I was there.

*          I had six different, unassociated people at two different shows ask me about "martini" paintings. Methinks I'll be putting that on the "to-do" list.

O.k., 'nuff braggin'! :-)

Below is a piece that sort of slipped through the cracks here on the list. It's called "rose shadow" and was started at the Desert Arts Festival in Palm Springs. This diptych received a lot of attention at the subsequent shows, for the 3-dimensional effect of the rose pedals on the surface of the painting. The digital images on the website do not do this piece justice.

This intense red cannot be reproduced, so in fact I am re-painting the rose pedals on each and every giclee on canvas reproduction - the first of which sold at Main St. Fort Worth - as a graduation present. The original was also first eyed at Main Street as well by Nancy (below) who then came back to Southlake the following weekend to acquire it. It comes in full size reproductions of 30"x30" panels, and in a smaller size of two, 20"x20" panels.

Well, as much fun as I'm having at these shows, I am slowing down the tour schedule now. I NEED TIME TO PAINT! Ironically, as I say that, I also want to announce that I will be spending the month of June working on a feature film in San Diego (my previous day-job). I will still be doing the two shows on my schedule, but won't get to paint anymore until July. My plan is to take July off completely, only do the two shows in Colorado in August, and I'm not sure about September yet. I really want to set aside sufficient time to generate more work for some of the galleries. And on that note - much work to do before I head up to Las Vegas next week! TTFN
