REStevensArt News 12 - 03/15/06 -       www.restevensart.com

HEY ALL!!!!

Welcome to the newcomers from Tucson and Oro Valley! As a reminder to all, you can go to the website - www.restevensart.com and click on the "Newsletters" link to see past issues! It was a nice show, GREAT weather of course! I had some fun visitors including an old friend I haven't seen in many a moon. AND, I got a nice head-start on my sunburn!

So here's a little sumthin'. I tend to be rather quiet about my contributions to various needy causes of my choosing (except
12on/12off of course). What this amounts to, is that I donate a certain number of limited edition giclee's throughout the year, which are then used as gifts, or raffle prizes, or whatever suits the organization best. I thought I would toss out a request for ideas on potential recipients. I've got plenty -o- plans of my own, but I'm open to learning about other missions out there. If anyone has any suggestions, please send me a brief note to - roderick@cinema-vista.com

(above) progress on "cans-o-paint" - presently a 4'x4' acrylic on Masonite. "Progress?" you ask, "What more is there?". Wait and see, say I !    :-)

In other news - I've come to realize that I am driving a mobile billboard around to all of these shows. I travel an average of 3000 miles per month to different cities in different states, almost exclusively to fairly affluent areas in this big  white advertising surface. Since I've no plans on utilizing that space for myself at the moment, I'm PUTTING IT UP FOR LEASE!!! If you know of any businesses that could benefit from such exposure, please let me know, as I would love to offer someone some affordable yet targeted advertising and put this space to better use (not to mention help pay for the van :-) .

4th Avenue Street Fair
March 24th, 25th, & 26th

The Street Fair takes place between Ninth Street and University Blvd. along Fourth Avenue. Free to the public, the Fourth Avenue Street Fair brings together 400 arts and crafts booths, 35 food vendors, 4 stages, street musicians, food, jugglers, street performers, kids entertainment, face painting, balloons, and tons of other fun activities, then packs them into three days of celebration. The Fourth Avenue Street Fair began in 1970 when Fourth Avenue merchants put tables in front of their stores to attract customers before the holidays. From that beginning it has developed into one of the premier street fairs in the nation, drawing crowds of 200,000 to 350,000 and ranking as one of the top visual arts fairs in the country. There is something for everyone at the Street Fair. Come for the shopping: 400 booths featuring arts and crafts that cover the spectrum from fine art to country crafts. Glass, clay, wood, clothing, metal, jewelry, pre-packaged food, all hand made by the artist/craftsperson. The two annual Street Fairs are Tucson’s biggest events!

I'll take this opportunity to let you all know that I'm aggressively brewing up some alternative methods for generating income for myself and making some manifestations of my art more affordable for people as well. I hope to disclose the details by the next newsletter! In fact, I've been so involved with this next stage that I almost forgot to get this "noozledder" out!

I know I suggested I might reveal my new line of deconstructed photorealism by this issue, but they're not quite ready yet. These new pieces take a bit more time and effort to complete than my other works. In the mean time I DO have a tasty treat I recently finished. Named so for quite obvious reasons, this is "Gellow". That's right. Not Jell-O which is a trademarked name, but "Gellow". I am officially into Phase II of my art career. I've explained to many of you that all of these paintings have been my art school, challenging myself with various subject matter as I learn how to do what I do. Well, kindergarten is officially over and this is my "commencement" painting. 1st Grade here I come!!!

"gellow"
18" x 48" acrylic on Masonite

THIS has been a fun piece, and was prompted by the enthusiasm that's followed "soap". I can tell you that seeing these images on-line most definitely does not do this one justice! The four feet in height really strengthens the impact of it, and I hope at least some of you get to see it in person at some point! I am really enjoying the concept of diving into the middle of the subject and making it larger than life. Many of you know of my occasional pattern of painting objects "on top" of the canvas, and I originally added a few spoons to this one, but my first test audience (my own instincts and my children) all concurred that this one was better left as just the primary subject.

Well, back to work until next time!
