REStevensArt News 03 - 11/08/05

Hey all!

HOLY MACKEREL this has been a productive couple -o- weeks!!! So productive that I wanted to send one of these out a week early, but couldn't find the time to slap it together! I've just returned from three shows (yes, three shows in two weekends - I'll explain later) and firstly - I knew I would be writing once again about how much pleasure I get out of seeing the other artwork at these shows and meeting my fellow artists! But honestly, nothing describes the experience adequately. Maybe it's because I'm still such a "freshman" at these, but I find it nothing short of a spiritual experience at times. I am often brought nearly to tears as I absorb so much beauty and talent assembled at these shows. Whew.

I find that just like in my "day job" world of cinematography - there is an abundance of cooperation and encouragement in this community. As much as we are all competing for business, there is a sense of respect and camaraderie in all of the arts that seems sadly lacking in many other industries. I witness so much talent out there that it is proven in endless supply to me and I am truly blessed to have the opportunity to keep seeing new art.

O.k. - that's my sappy rambling for this one! :-)

Check out the upcoming "Show Schedule"

The end of October (29th & 30th) saw me hanging out at The Summit in North Scottsdale. There I ran into some familiar faces a this small but very nice gathering of fine artists. I had a great time meeting some new friends and painting (see below). Sales were sluggish, though a few commissions may have come of it, BUT otherwise three very important things occurred.

Thing #1 - I met Jeff and Holly the fantabulous owners of the Wild Holly Gallery in Carefree, Az. where my pieces are now on display! I suspect an exciting and progressive partnership is presently being forged with them, and I'm quite grateful to have met them.

This also subsequently led to my unexpected (and unofficial) presence at the renown (and difficult to get into) Carefree Fine Art & Wine Festival the following weekend (Nov. 5th, 6th & 7th). I attended this show as a guest in front of the aforementioned gallery right there on Easy Street! This was a great show, with a great crowd of patrons and was quite inspiring for me. Simultaneously, my daughter manned (or daughtered as it were) a booth for me at Jewell's show in Rancho Sahuarita (announced in the last noozledder).

Thing #2 - I was invited to submit a proposal for the "Trail Of The Painted Ponies" project. I'll write more on this in the next noozledder. For now suffice it to say I am intrigued, excited, and honored to be considered for this.
Thing #3 - I SOLD MY FIRST ORIGINAL!!!!! Indeed, "52.5" which was in fact my first "I think I'll paint something to sell" piece back in the Fall of '04, is now in the loving hands of a new owner. For me this was very exciting validation of my present path. I must admit, I'm still a bit sad - as though one of my children has left home. It really hit me when I was packing up in Carefree and for the first time I wasn't wrapping up "52.5" to put in it's case  .  .  .  but HEY - I can buy more socks and pay my new car payment now !!!!! :-)
(left) Most of this piece, titled "mixing colors" was painted while attending The Summit show, and then finished up at the Carefree show. It is the first result of my search for balance between what I enjoy painting and what folks want to decorate their homes with.
I also completed another piece while in Carefree that I am anxious to share in the next noozledder; which I will try to send out next week so that I can get a little further ahead in announcing upcoming shows..

Lastly, I was recently invited to participate in the Russo and Steele exotic auto auction in Scottsdale in January, and was also accepted into the Scottsdale Fine Art And Chocolate Festival in February. '06 appears to be shaping up nicely already.

I am very excited about some new ideas that have been brewing up for me. As I watched some very large canvasses by another artist literally FLY out of the Wild Holly Gallery this past weekend, I was quite motivated to generate some larger scale works and I've already got four BIG ideas taking shape!

Well that's all for now! Thanks to everyone for their kudos, well-wishing, and just general swellness! Talk to y'all soon!
