REStevensArt News 02 - 10/25/05

   Hello ever-body!

I'm BACK!!!! First, before I forget - a couple -o- weeks ago I gave the website a bit of an overhaul - take a PEEK!

Another bit of exciting news is that the 'Coda Gallery' in Palm Desert has just offered to represent me in their market. Coda is one of the most renown and respected galleries in the Palm Springs area - an already strong market for contemporary art. There are a total of three Coda locations including New York City; and Park City, Utah (where I first encountered them while attending the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year). After seeing some of my work in January, the Park City owners suggested that Palm Desert might be a strong environment for my work. A few days before the recent Beverly Hills show, I met with that owner and then spent an hour touring their wonderful setting, oogling the many great works there. I will be delivering some of my originals while I'm in the neighborhood for the "Desert Arts Festival" in Palm Springs on Thanksgiving weekend, and I look forward to seeing my work hanging on the same walls as some of the magnificent pieces I swooned over last week.

I decided to take a picture of my truck all loaded up for an art show. SILLINESS I TELL YOU!!!

The second half of October has been quite a treat! Both the Beverly Hills 'Affaire In The Gardens', and the '5th Avenue Artfest' in Scottsdale, Az. were great fun! In both cases I stole away from my booth with reckless abandon (no really, there was reckless abandon), to peruse my fellow artists. WOW!!!! That's literally half the fun of doing these shows. What a gift to the eyes and spirit to see so much great stuff from so many diverse artists.

You know, I get a lot of oohs, aahhhs, and compliments during these shows (it's actually great exercise in humility), but none are as precious to me as the kudos I receive from my fellow artists. Many of my sales (and a few exciting trades :-) have been with them. Now THAT'S a compliment! There are times when the end of the day finds me in desperate need of a good kick in the ego to bring me back to earth. Whew! It's good to remind myself that I am not creating alone, and that my hand . .  . indeed my whole being - is merely a tool.

At the Beverly Hills show, I sold to a couple of celebrities! Since I didn't think to ask their permission, I shant name them here, but I'm happy to drop names in person! :-)

This past weekend was the 5th Avenue Artfest in Scottsdale! Great show! While there I finished "reunion III" ; 'cousin' to reunion II and specifically complimentary in that in the previous one the rim of the glass is out of focus while here the rim is the ONLY thing IN focus. This was also the first piece in which I explored 'glazing' with acrylics.

Below: Sanford & Son revisited!

I wanted to buy a trailer, but ran out of money purchasing this sexy new '05 Chevy Colorado earlier this year. Well - this was it's LAST trip to an art show. I'm spreadin' the word - IT GETS HORRIBLE GAS MILEAGE!!!! I was initially excited about the 4 cyl./5 spd, and gladly accepted it's wimpiness as a price for economy - but NOOOOO!!!! While coughing and sputtering up the mildest of hills, I've been averaging 19 mpg on the highway! I am now dusting off the old reliable mini-van to keep using for the art shows and trading this guzzler in for a  .  .  . well  .  . something fun methinks! More on that L8R! :-)

O.k. - well I'm off to take some reference photos for some new pieces, and otherwise prepare for these next two Arizona shows. I look forward to seeing some of you soon! Thanks bunches.
