JANUARY '08

BACK to "House Home"

We had to get the covered entryway built in order to finish 'final coating' the house. Holy mackeral it came out MUCH larger than I expected! Besides looking nice, a covered entryway is instrumental in energy efficiency as it creates a buffer between the environment and the front door - BUT THIS THING IS MASSIVE! Otherwise, more exterior finishing, some utilities, and starting on drywall consumed most of January.

By the time we'd finished framing out the entryway, I realized I had created a bohemoth! Ridiculous I tell you!

But I must admit, it looks nice. :-) At some point (down the road a ways), it will be anchored by two large obelisks on either front corner.

These are the three windows overlooking the dining room, as seen from the loft deck.

We have two hawks that preside over the two valleys on either side of the ridge. This one likes to perch on the high point of the house on occasion.

Here we are getting the west wing interior walls framed out.

A friend of my daughter's came to visit from back East, and I promptly put him to work. L to R, this is Brian, Roderick the 3rd, Jeff, and Melissa.

Brian is putting the last few screws into a piece of overhead drywall in the built in 'entertainment center'.

This became a swell way to seperate the den from a utility/electronics access closet.

Some more drywall starts to make the loft stairs feel more 'homie' . . . 'homey'? homely? home dog?

I bought this door on clearance at Lowe's! A special order that someone changed their mind on. $450 door that I got it for $90, and I love it!

I'm quite proud of my having made SOME sense of the instructions for installing the pumps and manifolds for my pex/in-floor heating system.

Here is the as of yet, uncovered utility wall. This will end up drywalled over, with access panels. What a bunch of spaghetti!
