BACK to "House Home"

BRRRRRR!!!!  This month, we focused on getting closed in (kinda like we have for the past three months). We poured and installed the concrete countertops (part of them, twice); engineered four wooden box-posts, and got the windows in place. Then we kept going with the exterior finishing (almost done with all basecoat, and about 1/2 done with final coat). Meanwhile, on nastier days (ie. COLD and windy), we'd duck back inside for some framing work.

One of the most anticipated steps is nearly complete; the concrete countertops, which include 6" of exterior overhang. Next is the windows!

The first go at installing the windows. Soon after, we pulled out the last three at the curve, and built a fourth wood post.

This was the first attempt at the curved part of the countertop. Some wrong measurements on my part, led to a re-do (see next).

As is often the case, the re-do gave us an opportunity to improve other things. I'm really happy with this wavy sink line, more than the first one.

These engineered wood posts add support, outlet locations, and some fun woodworking!

The kitchen windows from outside (where a deck my one day be . . . one day).

NO SIR! Not a fan of heights. This has been one of the half-dozen most stressful parts of building; the exterior finish on this 26' high wall.

Brian and I are EIFSing the wall outside the loft. As of Jan 01, we are ALMOST done with ALL of the EIFS base-coat.

These were some of our experiments with our own homemade concrete tiles.

These copper pipes are the feed and return for what will eventually be my solar hot water collectors.

This is 'Precious'. No, the boy is Roderick jr. The dog, named 'Precious', belongs to a neighbor, but now spends every moment we are present, with us.

Here the interior framing for the West wing begins to take shape, dividing the two bedrooms with the bathroom.
