This is my SON!!!!
It was upon completion of this painting that I realized I was . . "on to
something"! I recognized that I'd gotten pretty good at painting and
should do something with it! The rest is . . . well . . becoming history
at the moment. The reference photo for this was taken a couple years ago
as part of one of my cinematography exercises. I wanted to film him
drumming in the rain with a super-high speed camera that ran at 4000
frames per second (super slow-motion). I backlit him with the equivalent
of an 8000 WATT LIGHT and then hiked two sprinklers about 30 feet in the
air to create the rain. The filmed footage can be seen in a music video
segment on my cinematography website. Meanwhile, last year I was looking
for a picture of him to paint. I stumbled upon this one and thought it was
perfect. I always like the little subtle things like the wet, rippling
ground in the bottom right corner of the piece. Of course I also love the
motion blur of his left hand, the splashing water off the cymbal and the
wet shirt.
The original of this is of course for sale at a price few are willing to
pay (hehehe), but I had so many people inquire about it that I did decide
to reproduce it so I now have giclee's of it available.
